Learn synthesis

Hands-on steps from one oscillator to a full patch. Each step sets up a board for you, so there's only one or two blocks to add or settings to change. Play with them, then match the target. Hints are there if you want them.

Step 5 of 16

A filter envelope adds movement

An envelope can move the filter as well as the volume. Each note opens the filter and lets it close again, so it starts bright and settles darker.

That is the pluck on harps, guitars and synth arpeggios. Amount sets how far it opens; the dashed line on the Filter graph shows how far.

Your turn. The filter is set up for you. Add the Filter env: each note in the target starts bright, then quickly goes dark.
